Ryu Vs. Ken

information:
Ryu Vs. Ken were a post-hardcore / jazzy emo band from Brisbane, Australia. They formed in 2003 while living the world's funniest town - Rockhampton - and gradually built up their repertoire and finalised a static line-up by late 2005.

They occasionally ran small tours across Queensland and New South Wales, though never any further. Their sole EP, "Suffer, Surrender" was released on CDr in 2007 before they disappeared into deep, deep Australian emo history.

This is a really, really interesting EP. It manages to avoid all of the pitfalls of that goofy neo-skramz sound that came only a few years later. The guitar work is especially captivating, moving between a seriously healthy dose of chromaticism and all of the usual joys.

I get the impression that this band had an endless amount of fun while writing and recording these songs. The latter half of the last track just makes me smile... not unlike listening to Cap'n Jazz or something equally as chirpy and optimistic.

Very, very, very, very worth your while... and there's even live footage...
